Interpreter Spotlight
Rosalie Garro has been with RISE since about 2012. She is a CODA, so she’s been signing her whole life. She was in denial about being an interpreter until her sister, Marlene, encouraged her to pursue interpreting work. She even went back to school to further her education.
Rosalie has been married for 20 years and has 3 amazing adult children. She is also helping raise her twin niece and nephew! “I always say my family is amazing and have been blessed with amazing kids and people in my life. I stand firm with God. We wouldn’t be where we are now without him.”
Rosalie enjoys spending time with family, going camping, going to the lake and having family/friend gatherings.
Signing Aide Spotlight
Emily Forsberg
- With RISE Since: September 2024
- Fun Fact: Rocked a bold checkered mohawk as a Gallaudet freshman tradition 🔗
Emily has been a RISE Signing Aide since September 2024. Emily was born deaf, her mom wanting the best language access for her decided that she should begin learning ASL when she was in preschool. Growing up, Emily saw many DHH students fall through the cracks and not receive the support they needed. This fueled her passion to work with kids and share her experiences and skills to make a positive impact on their lives.
Fun fact: While attending Gallaudet University to become a Teacher in Deaf Education, she was able to participate in a very memorable freshman tradition where she colored and shaved her hair 🔗. She says she colored her hair into a bold, checkered mohawk, and shaved it off, creating an unforgettable experience! A picture has been included!
Emily’s hobbies include softball, hiking, baking cookies, and spending time with kids. Her goal is to have fun, enjoy life, and make a positive impact.

Tank
Meet Tank! He’s a 2 year old French Bulldog, he gained his name as a puppy when his family saw that no barricade or partition was a match for his will to bulldoze into an area to explore. Tank enjoys long walks around his 4 acre property with “Grumpa”, as long as it isn’t too cold or too hot. Tank knows to bring his leash over when it’s time to go for a walk, which was a self taught trick after realizing that Grumpa’s mobility made it tough to go and get the leash. And on every walk he needs to find what his family calls a “souvenir” aka a stick or whatever object he can fit in his mouth and carry with him. – Brittany Miller (Office Staff)

Monthly Tidbits:
Honoring Independence Day
On July 4th, we celebrate Independence Day, a cornerstone of American history. This federal holiday commemorates the ratification of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress in 1776. It was on this day that the United States formally declared its independence from British rule, setting the stage for the founding of a new nation built on the ideals of liberty and self-governance. As we gather with friends and family to enjoy fireworks, parades, and summer traditions, it’s a meaningful time to reflect on the courage and vision that helped shape the country we live in today.
Wishing you a safe and happy Fourth of July!
My spouse said I looked like a flamingo.
I had to put my foot down.
